Happy to hear that you, too, have an understanding husband. One point of contention for us is he loves snacks during movies. He will ask my permission which snacks he can have. We have settled on softer foods (pudding, yoghurt, cheese puffs), and this negotiation made a huge difference.

Hi,
I’m usually triggered when my husband chews around me so I wear headphones or leave the room. Thankfully, he understands but not everyone does.

Hi there. Step father to a teenager with misophonia. Just wanted to know if earplugs such as these were of any benefit?
https://www.loopearplugs.com/pages/noise-sensitivityThe claim it helps but i don’t overly trust many of these products. Wanted to know if there is any research or experience with them?

It depends on what their trigger is. Since these are only $20, I don’t see the harm in seeing if they are helpful for your step-child. I personally have had great success with silicone ones from the drug store paired with noise-cancelling headphones. Loop claims to allow you to hear talking while reducing other sounds. This will depend if the…[Read more]

That’s really interesting (and actually quite reassuring) to know!
Because the overwhelming majority of material I’ve read on misophonia concentrates on what my parents used to call “Mouth Music” (usually food- or breathing-related sounds). So even the little information there is, just doesn’t seem to mention the trigger sound that plagues me.…[Read more]

Lucky for me it’s only the sound of people chewing. Depending on the circumstances will determine how I cope. For instance, if I see it’s coming I will distance myself to a place it will no longer bothers me, that general means leaving the room. If that’s not an option, I hope there’s something I can chew on so the sound of my own chewing will…[Read more]

Hello, your trigger is not unusual. Many people with misophonia (in fact, most), cannot stand bass music. I cry when I hear it outside my window, and have considered moving to the middle of the woods to cope. As for getting rid of the sound, I have yet to find something that cuts through loud bass. A mix of earplugs and white noise can help, but…[Read more]

Hello, I found this place through a Twitter search after a crushingly frustrating and disappointing online ‘group therapy’ session for folks with tinnitus or ‘sound sensitivity’. I’m looking for other people who suffer with these issues and sharing what has helped us; I’m not looking to be patronised by clinicians who have never dealt with this…[Read more]

I cope by using constant low-level (45dB) background noise throughout my home. Radio static, brownian noise on a loop, the app Rain Rain. It cuts out about 80-90% of my trigger sounds.
But I’m here to look for ways to cope with or deal with the 10-20% of trigger sounds that are loud enough to cut through my protective cocoon of good sound?
(But…[Read more]

One way I cope is by knowing my limits, and trying to have a lot of alone time.
